Long Valley is the largest contiguous freshwater wetland in Hong Kong, famous for its diverse birdlife. It is home to nearly 320 bird species, representing more than half of the total bird species found in Hong Kong. Among these, 14 species are internationally recognised as endangered.
Historically, Long Valley was primarily used for paddy cultivation, which later shifted to vegetable farming. However, wetl farming has remained the dominant agricultural practice in the area. As an important agricultural wetland in Hong Kong, Long Valley has consistently supported a rich and diverse ecosystem.
As part of the “Kwu Tung North and Fanling North New Development Areas” project, the government reclaimed private farmlands in Long Valley and established the “Long Valley Nature Park” on this largest remaining agricultural freshwater wetland in Hong Kong. With this initiative, the area’s “agriculture-based” heritage could be preserved, and its biodiversity could be enhanced through active management.
With our guidance, participants will discover the vibrant and diverse wetland ecosystem, and learn about Long Valley’s conservation journey.
The “Long Valley Nature Park Guided Tour” accepts applications from schools, non-profit organisations, and individuals throughout the year from time to time. If you wish to participate or stay updated with relevant information, please Subscribe to Green Power.
We also welcome companies to become our “Green Impact Corporate Partners” and enjoy exclusive participation in “Long Valley Nature Park Guided Tour” or other environmental activities.
