We travel daily to and from our homes, schools, and offices, and we spend our leisure time in cinemas, shopping malls, and libraries... all these are indoor environments. With up to 70 to 80% of our time spent indoors every day, and as it constantly affects our health, we cannot ignore the topic of indoor air quality and its importance.
However, when we discuss “air pollution”, we often focus more on outdoor air pollution issues and less on indoor air pollution, even when the latter is closely related to our daily lives.
This project targets primary school students and uses various STEM study activities to present indoor air pollution issues that used to be “invisible and intangible” in a concrete manner, one at a time. Students have “fun in learning and doing” as they are guided in their exploration of environmental problems on their own, connecting the issues to their daily lives and practicing green living.
The project is divided into three aspects - “teach”, “learn”, and “home”. Under “teach”, there are workshops and published teaching resource kit for teachers to facilitate their teaching on related topics; in “learn”, multiple STEM exploration experiments have been designed for students to inspire their active exploration of indoor air pollution issues; and for “home”, we have “IAQ Inspection” competition for families to encourage the whole family to come together and find poor indoor air quality sources at home and make improvements. From “home” to “campus”, let’s create green and healthy indoor environments all around for the next generation!
